Planning with Aloha

We help visionaries create great environments through strategic design solutions built upon multidisciplinary experience, an impassioned team, and a strong network.

OUR MISSION

WE’RE COMMITTED TO…

  • We strive to make all projects great regardless of budget, size or any design consideration. All projects are client visions worthy of our best efforts and deserve cutting-edge thinking and best practices performance.

  • We strive to continue to evolve our best practices, create superior solutions, and grow the knowledge base of the planning industry.

  • We are committed to helping our team members grow professionally and attain their potential.

  • We are vigilant about maintaining a sustainable enterprise in order to achieve our company mission and goals.

  • Our business is more than a job. It is a lifestyle and passion for the planning arts.

In 1980, our firm – now known as HHF Planners – began as the planning division of world-renowned international architecture firm WATG. In 1993, Helber Hastert & Fee, Planners, Inc. incorporated on its own and diversified into a multidisciplinary planning practice with clients and projects around the globe. The company’s longevity and success for over forty years are a testament to its long-term vision, committed and talented staff, insights into navigating ups and downs, and dedication to providing client-centered services. As the firm marches toward its fiftieth anniversary, the newest cohort of partners, Rob James, Dane Sjoblom, and John Hagihara are leading the firm forward with the strong support of the company’s senior partners, and the entire HHF ‘ohana.

BACKSTORY

HHF Planners’ mountains-to-the-sea logo is inspired by the Hawaiian system of land tenure in which the divisions of each island — ahupua‘a — offered a variety of soils, elevations, climate, hydrology, and plant and animal life that provided for virtually every need of its residents. This consideration of environmental, economic, and social factors for sustainability was a forerunner of contemporary land planning.

OUR LOGO

Our ‘ohana gives back every year through service projects—trail building, wetland and native forest restoration, ‘āina-based sustainability and STEAM projects at local schools, tree planting, and working with young adults in secondary and college settings (e.g., UrbanPlan) and through our internship program. We are also annual supporters of Helping Hands Hawai‘i and Aloha United Way. You can also find us at the Sandy Beach Aid Station at the annual Honolulu Century Ride, a post we have manned (in support of the Hawai‘i Bicycling League) since 2007!
